bath bombs…

It had been a while since I made bath bombs. I was sending some in the mail for a trade on Mothering, and thought I would play with the recipe some. Supposedly, this recipe mimics LUSH’s bath bombs. I’ve never tried LUSH’s products, but they get rave reviews. I will say our skin feel fabulous after using these in the bath, and it’s definitely much less expensive.

Bath bomb recipe:

  • 1 1/2 cup baking soda
  • 1/2 cup citric acid
  • 1/4 cup melted coconut oil
  • scent of choice
  • food coloring
  • enough water or witch hazel to wet it as you work with it

We have an ornament mold that we use. Unlike commercial bath bombs, we only make them in half spheres. In my experience, half size is more than sufficient for a nice bath. Lightly grease the mold, firmly pack it, and gentle slide it out. Let it dry and harden for a while on a plate. Then wrap them up.

We made some of our normal bath bomb scents with essential oils, such as orange and eucalyptus/peppermint for when people are sick. Then we branched out and tried out some new fun things. Root beer, vanilla, and banana flavorings made great scents. We even tried some kool-aid, which worked for coloring and scenting the bath bombs. If you use water, they are completely edible (not that they would taste very good).

These make great stocking stuffers, gift toppers, or make several for an inexpensive gift.
