Little notes from my children pop up everywhere. My 8 year old especially likes to slip little notes into my planner. Sometimes he does so covertly and other times he slyly asks me if he can see it.

Compassion is not a Convenience
While viewing a lake at a local park, my children and I spotted something not too far off the shore, gasping. Just under the surface, I saw the signs of landscaping net, and I knew what had happened. Some of the landscape netting had made its way into the lake, where a poor, unsuspecting fish... Continue Reading →
Mothering Peter Pan
I watched at the park as my eight year old, clad in sandals, a green polo, and khaki, charcoal, and white plaid shorts, took a soaring leap onto an oversized log. I was struck with his resemblance to Peter Pan as he flew through the air in his green. Childhood is as limitless as we... Continue Reading →

Honoring Belief and Authenticity during the Holidays
Before my husband and I had children, we discussed how we planned to handle various aspects of holidays. We aren't Christian and don't celebrate Christmas, so it only seemed natural to me that we wouldn't bring the commercial aspect of Santa Claus into our home for the Solstice. It wasn't something I would miss. Not only... Continue Reading →
