Children see the beauty in even simple things. My daughter picked these flowers and placed them in a jar from the recycling. She decided they would add a litle beauty to the bathroom, which of course, they did.
food allergies and food intolerance…
After reading Overcoming Allergies, I dove into Jonathan Brostoff's Food Allergies and Food Intolerance. The beginning of the book is quite informative regarding the biological processes behind food allergies and food intolerance. Based on the work of clinical ecologists and scientifically sound, my only complaint about the beginning of the book was the lack of references. For... Continue Reading →
a box of markers..
We always try to help others out when we can. If we have something we don't need, we try to give it away to someone who can use it. Sometimes that comes back to us. The other weekend when we were out doing yardwork, our next door neighbor came over and offered us a bag... Continue Reading →
basket of berries cheesecake…
For my daughter's birthday, she requested a lemon cheesecake that looked like it was a basket of berries that she had just picked. My husband is the cheesecake baker in the family, so I handed that portion off to him. I had never made fondant before, but it seemed like the most plausible way to... Continue Reading →
bigger kid’s picnic table…
My husband and I have always managed to build things, despite having limited tools. We even built a rather nice shelf when we lived in an apartment, using our then coffee table as a sawhorse. I didn't have an e-mail account until undergrad, when the internet still seemed rather new (at least to me). It definitey wasn't like it is now. Computers are a part of... Continue Reading →
the edge of the precipice…
Photo from Free FotoI had no immune system the year I turned eleven. Minus the many visits to doctors and specialists, I spent the year at home. I couldn't be around other people because my body couldn't handle even simple viruses. My arms looked like those of a junkie from all of the blood tests.... Continue Reading →

cultured buttermilk…
Photo courtesy of Big OvenIn the past whenever a recipe has called for buttermilk, I've resorted to making sour milk. It's an easy substitution. Pour a little lemon juice or vinegar into a cup of milk and wait five minutes. Since I never had buttermilk on hand, it was easier to substitute the sour milk... Continue Reading →
